About this flag
The Commonwealth Star reimagines Kentucky's flag as a single, simple symbol while keeping its familiar colors and meaning.
The blue field is set to Old Glory Blue, the blue of the national flag. At its center is a white star. Around it, eight points alternate goldenrod and bluegrass, reworking the goldenrod wreath that encircles the seal on today's flag into one continuous ring. The proportions come from the LeMoyne star, a quilt block long pieced in Kentucky homes.
No point touches another. Each stands on its own, and the star exists only when all of them stand together: Kentucky's motto drawn as a shape.
United we stand, divided we fall
The blue field, the gold and green of the wreath, and the principle of unity all remain, in a form anyone can recognize, reproduce, and draw from memory.
